Bhola is an island district. Meghna and Tetulia rivers flow through Bhola Sadar upazila. Most of the people here are engaged in agriculture and fishing. Locally, there are no industrial factories here. However, there are reserves of natural gas, which have created a business-friendly and favorable environment for setting up factories. Being surrounded by Meghna and Tetulia rivers, there are facilities for transportation of goods by water.
New business establishments have been established in Sadar Road, Banglabazar, Paranganj, Banker Hut, Velumia areas of Sadar Upazila. Establishment of a Private Economic Zone in Shivpur is in progress. Several apparel and multinational industrial companies have started operations to set up their factories in Veduria union. Besides, there is a ceramics plant here. There is a proposal to create an economic zone in South Dighaldi Union. Local entrepreneurs have set up small scale industries here along with cottage industry through BISIC. There are also some ice mills here.
Fishery resources, especially hilsa fishing, play a major role in the economic activities here. The agricultural products produced here - rice, soybeans, watermelon, sugarcane, betel nut, betel nut and vegetables are sold in different parts of the country besides meeting the local demand. Cattle and buffaloes are sold to other parts of the country to meet the local demand of animal resources. The sweets and buffalo milk curds here are in demand across the country.
The region is full of natural beauty and is an excellent place for the tourism industry. There are a lot of investment opportunities here in this industry.
Due to uninterrupted power supply, natural gas reserves, easy transportation of goods by water and land, this area can play an investment-friendly role for business.
